Earlier this month CONTEXT hosted a session on Supply
Chain and Sustainability at the Electronics Channel Strategy Forum
(ECSF) in Abu Dhabi, The presentation shed light on key trends and
crucial insights that are shaping the landscape of the electronics
market in the Middle East and Northern African (MENA) region.
ESG Legal Framework Impact
One of the key aspects discussed was the impact
of the evolving Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) legal
framework, particularly in Europe. The presentation highlighted how
these regulations can significantly influence the MENA market, making
it imperative for businesses to closely monitor and adapt to these
changes. Understanding and complying with the European ESG regulations
have become essential for companies operating in the region.
Distributor Opportunities in Second–Life Products
One of the trends discussed was the growing
market for second–life products, with distributors in the MENA
region playing a more significant role compared to their European
counterparts. CONTEXT recommends that effective pricing and
marketing strategies for refurbished or remanufactured items could
enhance margins for distributors. This in turn opens up new avenues
for businesses to explore in order to meet both environmental goals
and market demands.
CONTEXT’s Initiatives
The presentation concluded by unveiling two
innovative products that CONTEXT is currently developing:
Product ESG Database: CONTEXT
is working on a product ESG database that aims to provide carbon
footprint and ecolabel data at both product range and SKU levels.
This initiative enables distributors and resellers to easily access
ESG information for products, facilitating inclusion in tender
documents or for conducting their own scope 3 carbon footprint audits.
(Second–Life) Refurbished and
Remanufactured Product Market Tracking: Recognizing the
growing importance of second-life products, CONTEXT is building a
panel to provide valuable market insights. This initiative is geared
towards offering distributors and other stakeholders the necessary
information to navigate the market for refurbished and
remanufactured products effectively.
CONTEXT’s presentation at ECSF highlighted the
crucial intersection of supply chain dynamics and sustainability in
the MENA electronics market. As organisations continue to adapt to
changing regulations and consumer preferences, initiatives like the
ESG database and market tracking for second–life products become
essential tools for staying ahead in this dynamic landscape.
