In the ever–evolving landscape of Large Format
Display (LFD) markets, several key trends are shaping the industry’s
trajectory, offering both challenges and opportunities for businesses worldwide.
Recent market intelligence by CONTEXT indicates a
positive increase in demand since Q4–23, with unit sales experiencing
10.1% growth in Q4 and 8.2% in Q1 (Jan–Feb). However, this growth
hasn’t translated proportionally into revenue, which has seen a
decline of –3.1% in Q4 and –5.6% in Q1. This decline can be attributed
to a combination of price drops and a shift towards lower–end models.
A number of factors contribute to the growing
demand for LFDs, including technological advancements such as the
transition from LCD to LED displays and the integration of interactive
features for education, tourism, and entertainment sectors.
Additionally, the shift towards hybrid working models has fueled
demand for collaboration systems compatible with platforms like Zoom
and Teams. Government digitalization initiatives, such as those in the
EU, further stimulate market growth, alongside major events like the
Olympic Games and EUROs.
Environmental, Social and Governance
There are a number of trends that are shaping the
dynamics of this industry. The emergence of Environmental, Social, and
Governance (ESG) considerations is shifting priorities within the LFD
markets. With the implementation of the Corporate Sustainability
Reporting Directive (CSRD), organisations face increased pressure for
transparency and accountability regarding their environmental impact.
This is leading to a focus on reducing energy
usage, carbon emissions, and re–designing products for improved
sustainability. The rise of Direct View LED technology highlights this
trend, offering higher energy efficiency, reduced material usage, and
emphasis on repairability. Geographical factors also play a
significant role, with Nordic countries leading in ESG legislation,
posing challenges for domestic distributors due to increased costs.
AI Integration
While Artificial Intelligence (AI) is still in
its early stages within the LFD industry, the potential for
AI–driven product design and manufacturing is promising. Generative
AI technologies like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot are expected to
influence the interactive LFD category, enhancing user experiences and
functionalities through operating system integrations.
Events like ISE 2024 serve as pivotal moments for
industry players to showcase cutting–edge technologies and foster
collaboration. The recent event in Barcelona witnessed a flurry of
activity, hinting at a vibrant year ahead for the LFD market.
Looking ahead, insights from the TV market show
increased experimentation with transparent display products, with some
notable companies showcasing their latest releases in this space at
CES 2024. It would not be a surprise to see the same happen within the
LFD industry – watch this space!
As the LFD market continues to evolve, businesses
have to remain agile, embracing sustainability, technological
advancements, and shifting consumer demands in order to succeed in
this evolving marketplace.
